Slash and Myles Kennedy did an acoustic set in Detroit recently, playing everything from originals to hits by the guitarist's former bands Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver.

Performing for WRIF 101.1 FM, the pair played "Back From Cali" from 2010's Slash, "Fall To Pieces" off of Velvet Revolver's 2004 Contraband, and a riveting take on the GNR classic "Sweet Child O' Mine" (see below). Slash and Kennedy also strummed a new one from the upcoming World On Fire album, scheduled for a Sept. 15 release, titled "Bent To Fly."

Slash and Kennedy started working together back in 2010 after the guitarist heard that the Alter Bridge frontman had been considered to front Led Zeppelin in 2008 for a tour that never happened. "I was like, 'This guy's gotta be fucking good,'" Slash told Rolling Stone. "Jimmy Page was calling him up!" The partnership resulted in 2012's Apocalyptic Love, and they have continued to work together ever since. "He's got a great work ethic," Slash said. "He doesn't know what to do with himself when he's not busy."

It seems like for once in the guitarist's career he's found a reliable singer. In 2002, Slash formed Velvet Revolver with former GNR bandmates Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, along with Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland. While the band was able to put out two solid releases, tensions stemming from Weiland's drug relapse. Long before Velvet Revolver, Slash played alongside Axl Rose, who has called the guitarist a "cancer" in recent years. The music was good, but the drama was juicier with GNR.

Guns N' Roses was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012, and in the least surprising move ever, Rose declined to show. Kennedy sang in his place.
