Taylor Swift may or may not be "Out of the Woods," but the newly branded pop star's new Jack Antonoff (Bleachers) penned single has been released. Initially due for a midnight unveiling, the latest 1989 track appeared online shortly before Oct. 13 was due to end, and it just oozes slow moving power pop potential.

Recalling basically any Bleachers single from Antonoff's first LP Strange Desire, "Out of the Woods" features deep, winding instrumentation and fittingly dangerous and intensely whispered vocals from Swift. Imagine Swift actually in 1989 or, you know, singing along to "I Wanna Get Better" and then you have "Out of the Woods."

So, that's to say that this song is a totally new offering from Swift and one that may actually appeal to a large untapped audience for her: the indie rock snobs.

There's something inherently infectious to the chorus, which features layered Swift vocals repeating "Are we out of the woods yet / Are we in the clear yet?" It's intensely magnetizing and mature, which is more than can be said for the pretty basic pop offering (and lead 1989 single) "Shake It Off."

When Swift promised that this song was the best sampling of what 1989 was, we had no idea this is what she had in store.

"Out of the Woods" is a sampler single from Swift's new album 1989, though it is not an officially promoted track. 1989, currently being led by "Shake It Off," is due to be released on Oct. 27.
