Neil Patrick Harris has been confirmed to be the official host of this year's Oscars which will air on Feb. 22. Harris has had quite a bit of luck when it comes to hosting. He did a great job of making the Emmys watchable this year and all four Tony Awards telecasts' that Harris have hosted have gone on to win Emmy awards. Variety was the first outlet to make the announcement about Harris hosting the next Academy Awards saying,

"Neil Patrick Harris will host this year's Oscars on Feb. 22. Harris has performed on the Academy Awards show, but this will be his first time as host. Harris hosted the Tony Awards last year and Emmy in 2013 and 2009, so with Oscar, he is apparently going for the EGOT sweep of hosts. (All that remains is Grammy.) He is appearing in Fox's B.O. hit "Gone Girl." He has won four Emmys and this year took home a Tony for the lead role in the musical "Hedwig and the Angry Inch." The 87th Oscar show will air live on ABC TV and in 225 countries.

Harris made a video of himself officially taking the Oscar hosting job off of his official bucket list. He also issued a statement through the Academy saying,

"To be asked to follow in the footsteps of Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, Ellen DeGeneres, and everyone else who had the great fortune of hosting is a bucket list dream come true."

It has been a great year for Harris not just professionally, but also personally. He and longtime partner, David Burtka recently tied the knot putting to rest all sorts of speculation on the status of their relationship. What are your thoughts on Harris being tapped to host the Oscars? Does it make sense and will he be able to keep the long show running smoothly? Or do you wish someone completely new was picked for the job? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
