Your correspondent isn't one to get too excited about every new song released by every frickin' band but this one could be exciting: It seems that a new Sleater-Kinney track exists, which only adds fuel to the fire of rumors suggesting that the band will be reemerging with a new album or tour during 2015. But we can be even more specific than that...how about January of 2015?

Music Times reported last month that the rock band would be releasing a compendium next week titled Start Together, which features everything previously released from the band. Buzz started however when a few lucky listeners got their copies early and found an unannounced, white 7" record that featured only the date "1/20/15," along with the signatures of the band's members. And yeah, the song on the short-play is brand new as far as anyone can tell.

Stereogum released a 15-second clip of the song playing on its Instagram account, confirming the track to be brand new and titled "Bury Our Friends."

This is exciting news, whatever the date implies. Sleater-Kinney officially called it quits during 2005 and fans began to give up hope as Carrie Brownstein's Portlandia, her comedic sketch show with Fred Armisen on IFC, continues to gather acclaim and popularity (depsite a 2012 appearance at Coachella). Brownstein and drummer Janet Weiss had come together with a few other rockers to found the supergroup Wild Flag, which suggested that the pair might go back to its original project with bassist Corin Tucker following Flag's retirement. This mysterious 7" is about as close as anyone's gotten to good news however. Keep your eyes on Music Times on January 20 next year.
