Johnny Marr helped out Noel Gallagher with his just-announced album Chasing Yesterday, and the former Smiths guitarist had nothing but good things to say about the record.

Marr plays on the album's closer, "Ballad of the Mighty I," which, NME reports, will be the album's second single following "In the Heat of the Moment." "He contacted me and said he had a song that he'd be happy for me to play on," Marr said. "I accepted, gladly, and it was was really good to spend a day playing guitar in a little studio near Chelsea Bridge. When that was done I listened to about eight songs on the album."

The guitarist went on to give positive feedback on what he heard. "It's really good. What I heard of it was very melodic, some of it pretty rocking too, and fans are going to really like it," he added. "He doesn't do things he doesn't think are great. And his singing is really good on the album."

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds shared the lead single last week and announced a few U.K. dates that sold out in 10 minutes

In Marr's opinion, Chasing Yesterday could be a tougher adjustment for the former Oasis member because he already established himself as a solo artist with his 2011 self-titled debut. "In some ways it might be more of a challenge than the first, because he's building on a successful solo career, essentially on his own," he said. "But he's smart and everyone knows he knows what he's doing."

After announcing the album, Gallagher praised Marr and his career. "He's a truly great guitarist and he has something that nobody else has," he said. "He's amazing, a top man.
