Surf company Hurley and guitar giant Fender joined forces recently to help a charity that makes sure people who need clean drinking water get it. The effort, Waves for Water, is getting some help from musicians like Ryan Adams, Johnny Marr and Rancid's Tim Armstrong.

According to SPIN, 20 artists, musicians and designers will paint their Stratocasters and auction them off for the charity. The finished products can be viewed on eBay now through Nov. 1. Contributors include Don Ed Hardy, Incubus's Brandon Boyd, Christian Jacobs of The Aquabats, Albert De Alba, tattoo artist Tokyo Hiro, art movement Cryptik, Tommy Guerrero, Craig Stecyk, Wes Humpston, Lance Mountain, Ray Barbee, Natalia Fabia, Dan Smith and Russell Crotty.

Orange County residents will be able to see the work up-close at Hurley's base of operations at a charity auction tomorrow, Oct. 24, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Stratocaster.

Waves for Water was founded after professional surfer Jon Rose witnessed the devastating effects of an earthquake that destroyed the city of Padang in Indonesia in 2009. The idea is simple enough, the nonprofit's website reads: "To get clean water to every single person who needs it."

"The goal is to take existing solutions in the form of portable water filters into countries that need them," the mission statement continues. "There are different options in deciding which filters would be best for each region, based on needs in various areas. Options range from ceramic filters that can be transported by one person to larger filters that can provide clean water to an entire village."

Waves for Water have set up filtration systems in Haiti, Pakistan, Chile and Indonesia.
