If you caught The Flaming Lips on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night (October 31), then you already know about their trippy, nutty performances of classic Beatles tracks "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and "With a Little Help from My Friends." If not, let's talk.
Wayne Coyne and co. were joined onstage by the marvelous Grace Potter to promote their upcoming Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band tribute album, With a Little Help from My Fwends, Consequence of Sound notes. The performances were ... interesting, to say the least. Coyne was dressed as a rainbow that attached to pal Morgan Delt, who's been opening for The Flaming Lips, while Potter opted for a witch costume (the winner was absolutely Jimmy Kimmel's Mr. Potato Head). On "With a little Help From My Friends," Potter shines with her strong vocals while Coyne and Delt's auto-tune seems to throw things off tempo.
The group turned up the weirdness for "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds." This time, Coyne sings without any aid while Delt's auto-tune goes to a whole other level, which actually works well for the song. Potter screams her heart out, reaching a shriek during the infamous chorus. Props to Kimmel's camera crew too for catching all the psychedelic imagery in masterful fashion.
With a Little Help from My Fwends came out earlier in the week and features a laundry list of guest spots. My Morning Jacket, Miley Cyrus, Moby, Dr. Dog, and Phantogram. Potter and Delt also appear on the album. Check out the full tracklist below.
