Garth Brooks is the king of Oklahoma. There's little room for argument. The living country legend — and OK native — just broke his own record for ticket sales in Tulsa, as he pushed 90,000 tickets in two hours on Friday. That number easily surpasses his previous high of 79,885 in 1997, when he performed a series of shows at Driller Park (KOCO).
He's currently prepping six shows at Tulsa's BOK Center, for which this batch of tickets was sold.
The gigs are part of his seemingly never-ending comeback tour, which has already covered several cities, and will likely extend late into 2015 (if not 2016).
In related news, Brooks finally succumbed to social media and created accounts on Facebook and Twitter.
"I really wasn't sure about this at the start," he said in a video on his recently published Facebook page. "But then a friend of mine said something that just made all kinds of sense. She said, 'Think of it more as a conversation.' I like that."
Brooks sounded like the rest of us when it came to discussing content.
"I want to post cool stuff," he says. "Slick stuff, neat stuff. But most of the stuff I'm gonna post is gonna be raw stuff like this, 'cause it's just who I am. So if this is truly a conversation, then I say let the conversation begin."
