A Janis Joplin biopic that has been in the works for awhile appears to be moving forward. According to The Hollywood Reporter, filming for the project, which stars Amy Adams, will begin shooting in the second half of 2015. Janis Joplin: Get It While You Can has yet to secure a director, but Dallas Buyers Club mastermind Jean-Marc Vallee is in talks for the position. The movie was first reported on back in 2010.

There have been a few Joplin biopics in the works over the past decade, Rolling Stone reports. One, titled Joplin, has been in development for nearly 15 years, and IMDb still lists it as an ongoing project. Zooey Deschannel, Pink and Lili Taylor were all attached to play the legendary singer at different times.

Joplin managed to release four albums in her short life, which ended in 1970 at the age of 27 from a heroin overdose. She kicked her recording career off in 1967 with Big Brother and the Holding Company (also the name of the band she was fronting) followed by Cheap Thrills in 1968. Joplin went solo the following year for I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Agian Mama!, and her most commercially successful album to date, Pearl, came out in 1971.

"Janis' last. Fortunately, Pearl is a good record and Janis is often magnificent," Rolling Stone wrote about the album. "The voice cut off was clearly in its prime. I suspect that some of the tracks are not in their final shape, but these are not scraps, and there is every indication that Janis was working toward a new maturity and confidence."

Joplin's last greatest hits collection, Very Best of Janis Joplin, came out in 2007.
