Dutch DJ / producer Nicky Romero has shared what appears to be a first attempt at trying to make a movie soundtrack. Nicky Romero or now Nick Rotteveel, covers the infamous "Requiem For A Dream" as best he can. It sounds a little flat and seems to be missing something, but is a solid first effort in this realm. He tweeted out a private link, giving his fans access to his work.

As a primarily string driven track, it is worth noting that this is not Nicky Romero's first work with strings. His track "Symphonica" heavily features strings and even sampled a live orchestra to create the full-bodied sound in the song.

Electronic music DJs / producers have been scoring movie and TV soundtracks for decades. One of the most prolific examples is Brian Transeau, known professionally as BT, who has scored major Hollywood blockbusters like "Monster," "Gone In 60 Seconds," "The Fast & Furious" and "Catch & Release." He has also worked on other video games like "FIFA Football 2002" and "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005."

Other DJs have tried their hand at scoring films and TV shows like Skrillex for "Wreck-It Ralph," Zedd for "Divergent," Junkie XL for a whole host of movies and Australian composer / producer tyDi also added his own work to films.

This is an interesting move by the DJ / producer to try out this direction, but as someone who has helped to develop his own plugin and produced dance music in many different styles, it isn't surprising to see him experiment with potential productions.

It is unclear whether or not this is actually for a film or just him experimenting and trying out new sounds.
