Kendrick Lamar's instant classic major label debut good kid m.A.A.d city has been lauded for its vivid imagery and impeccable storytelling. If you look carefully at the cover of the album, it reads, "good kid M.A.A.d city, a short film by Kendrick Lamar." Now those scenes will come to life in a new documentary. Titled m.A.A.d, the film premiered a few months back at Sundance Film Festival and is now headed for screenings on the West Coast. The 14-minute documentary, directed by Kahlil Joseph and scored by Flying Lotus, will be available for fans to view at the Museum of Contemporary Art's MOCA Grande Avenue in Los Angeles from March 21 through July 27, 2015.

The synopsis on the museum's official site is as follows:

Kahlil Joseph's double-screen projection m.A.A.d is a lush portrait of contemporary Los Angeles. From barbershops to marching bands, from homeboys drinking in the streets to the iconic carpet of shimmering lights, the camera in m.A.A.d sinuously glides through predominantly African American neighborhoods in Los Angeles catching a dizzying array of quotidian moments suffused with creativity, joy, and sadness. Joseph's film accompanied by a thick booming soundtrack provided by emerging hip-hop star Kendrick Lamar and indeed m.A.A.d is part of the title of Lamar's highly acclaimed second album good kid m.A.A.d. city. The intensity of the music and deeply evocative nature of Joseph's imagery present the viewer with a quandary: is this a film, a music video, or some third, as yet undefined genre.

This isn't the first time K. Dot as worked with Joseph and Flying Lotus. According to The Fader, the director reportedly worked on components of his Yeezus Tour and the producer worked on a bunch of tracks for Lamar's highly anticipated upcoming sophomore effort.
