As we have recently reported, jazz star Norah Jones has teamed up with Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong to pay homage to the Everly Brothers and the 1958 album, Songs Our Daddy Taught Us. They have thoughtfully named their version Foreverly.

The album isn't set for release until Nov. 25, but Rolling Stone got the exclusive release on the new track "Silver Haired Daddy of Mine" today. In an interview with the magazine, the pair shared some insights on the purpose of the collaboration for them.

"It seemed so cryptic that these guys would be doing songs about death, being in jail and lost love," Armstrong said. "I liked the whole concept that this was something taught to them, and now it's being taught to me. I thought it would be cool to pass the tradition one more time."

The record has different emotional layers and vibes than the original. "That was the key for us - not to just copy the record," said Jones. "Songs like 'Down in the Willow Garden' and 'Put My Little Shoes Away' - they're such dark lyrics. We thought we'd play that up."

Jones also shared with Sterogum recently about how she felt about joining in for this project.

"I was familiar with some of it. I wasn't familiar with that entire record specifically, but I knew a lot of those songs and a lot of those recordings. I was kinda a huge Everly Brothers fan growing up - so I knew the Everly Brothers' stuff - but mostly the more popular stuff. So I listened to the record a bunch and then when we were talking it just sounded so fun."
