Brooklyn-via-Berkeley indie rock group POP ETC (formerly the Morning Benders) have shared a new track titled "Running in Circles," which you can check out below. According to Stereogum, the track is the first to be shared from POP ETC's upcoming studio album, which is set for release later this year. Keeping up with the recent indie rock trend of paying homage to mainstream '80s rock artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Don Henley, and Tom Petty (see: The War On Drugs, Ryan Adams), "Running In Circles" is a dancey, synth-heavy track that could easily be spun in a club, with a chorus that could legitimately be mistaken for a top 10 hit from 1985.

The upcoming POP ETC album has yet to be given a title or exact release date. It will be the group's fourth studio album overall, their first since 2012's POP ETC (which was their first album under their new name). Previously, they had released two albums as The Morning Benders: 2008's Talking Through Tin Cans and 2010's Big Echo. Since their last album, the group has also appeared on the soundtrack to The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 with their song "Speak Up."

The group decided to change its name from "The Morning Benders" to POP ETC back in 2012 after discovering that "bender" was a gay slur in many parts of Europe. "A lot of ignorant people yelling stupid s**t at us," is how the band explained to Life and Times the decision to change their name. "Later some more educated people [explained] to us that the name may come off as offensive to some people because it has a second meaning in Europe."
