It was bound to happen sooner or later, right? Eventually, Ian Somerhalder and his girlfriend, Nikki Reed were going to come face-to-face with his former flame, Nina Dobrev — and it finally happened last night. All three attended the InStyle after party that followed the Golden Globes, and while it was likely pretty awkward, especially for Dobrev, things remained civil between them although for the majority of the night she was nowhere near the lovebirds.
Somerhalder dating Reed really shocked fans of The Vampire Diaries when it was first revealed last summer. Mainly because she had actually been good friends with Dobrev during her three-year romance with Somerhalder. In fact Reed and her then-husband, Paul McDonald used to double date with Somerhalder and Dobrev so it felt like she had betrayed her friend by deciding to date Somerhalder after both original couples split.
While Dobrev has been working with her ex for nearly 2 years since they split, it's not every day that she runs into him with her former friend, and that probably stings. Somerhalder and Dobrev had a huge fan base that wanted to see them together in real life and it's those same fans that aren't so thrilled with Reed. It seems like things are moving pretty quickly with her too. Somerhalder was spotted looking at engagement rings before Christmas and while the couple were supposedly taking things slow it actually sounds like they are on the fast track to a wedding.
