Surprise, surprise. Sam Smith leads the nominations for an awards show. Today (Jan. 15), the nominations for the best of British music, the Brits, were announced and the “I’m Not the Only One” singer leads nominations, followed closely by Ed Sheeran, Calvin Harris and Royal Blood.
Smith leads the nods with five nominations total. The British crooner is up for every major category for which he was eligible: British Male Solo Artist, British Breakthrough Act, British Single (“Stay With Me”), British Album of the Year (In the Lonely Hour) and British Video of the Year (“Stay With Me”). Sheeran follows with similar nominations for his stellar album x and single “Thinking Out Loud.”
For those not with British blood, Taylor Swift, Beck, Hozier and Beyoncé are among international nominees.
