Dolly Parton scored a deal with NBC recently to develop a few two-hour TV specials for the network based on her life, music and personal writings. The country legend is no stranger to the television and film industry, having starred in Steel Magnolias and 9 to 5. NBC executive Robert Greenblatt announced the news yesterday at the Television Critics Association press event.

"I produced 9 to 5: The Musical on Broadway and we became very close," Greenblatt told Rolling Stone Country. "She's just thinking about a lot of things going on in her life and things she's written about and I had lunch with her a couple of months ago and she said, 'You know, I'd love to see if there's some movies we can develop out of the stories I've been writing about.'"

Parton thanked the network for their support and shared her vision for the projects.

"I am so excited to be involved with my friend Bob Greenblatt... and my longtime friend and former agent Sam Haskell," she wrote in a statement. "We want to create projects for NBC that are both fun and inspirational with a family audience in mind."

Greenblatt has not ruled out Parton's involvement as an actress so long as the part was something right for her skill set.

"We have not talked about them being musicals, but you know it's not out of the question," he added. "I think they will have a lot of her music in them, but I don't think they'll be musicals, per se."

Parton's other onscreen credits include The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Reba and Hannah Montana. She recently appeared in Dave Grohl's documentary series on HBO, Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways.
