Kevin Hart put on quite a show over the weekend when he stopped by Saturday Night Live. The actor brushed off his James Brown impression for a skit that centered around the Godfather of Soul and his backing band The Famous Flames. It was one of the funnier sketches of the night.

Hart's Brown is preparing for a 1971 gig at The Apollo Theater in Harlem. He and the band are running through the funky number "Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine" when they start to poke fun at the call-and-response nature of the group. Hart starts asking the band — which includes Keenan Thompson, Bobby Moynihan and Cecily Strong, among others — if they should "get more funky." They answer "yeah" a few times before Hart takes it a step further.

"Now, before we get funky, I need to hear it from each person individually," he says in the clip below.

Three people agree that the funk level should go up, but Thompson is not sure.

"I don't know if I wanna get more funky than this," he responds.

The band then asks why they do not get capes like the lead singer before a whole lunch order goes down. Check it out.

James Brown was not the only artist SNL targeted over the weekend. The sketch show went harder on Justin Bieber, poking fun at the pop star's recent Calvin Klein underwear commercials. Props to Kate McKinnon on this one — check it out here.

A biopic based on Brown's life titled Get on Up was released in August. It featured Chadwick Boseman in the lead role and Dan Aykroyd as the singer's longtime manager Ben Bart. It was met with mixed reviews.
