Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has had a nightmare two years. After a successful 2012 season that saw him post the best numbers by a rookie QB ever, he blew out his knee in the playoffs. The 2013 and 2014 seasons were marred by more injuries and poor play, and the bad blood between RG3 and the Redskins fan base boiled over onto Instagram Tuesday, Feb. 9. Griffin posted a video of himself in which he sings to Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean," thereby starting a social media war.

Jamming to MJ on the way to get that work in this morning #BillyJean What you working with this morning?

Commenters were apparently upset that Griffin was spending his time on social media when he should be working on improving his game.

"This is why you will be cut after next year in Washington," one fan wrote, via ESPN. "Why you weren't even mentioned as the future. You are a 'QB'. Act like one."

That fan then told another user that Griffin "cares more about his brand, social media than working in his craft."

Obviously, RG3 was upset.

"If giving back to the community and training for football at the same time is frowned upon.....then what would you say I do Sir?" he responded. "Not give back or Train? Honest Question."

Then later: "Oh wait...and should I not enjoy a classic song with others who Love MJ? I'm just asking for your wisdom here."

He also fired the following comments at a fan who claimed to be a "military man":

  • "Players put too much time into our profession to be told posting on social media 2 or 3 times a day is a sign that you don't focus on your craft."
  • "No need to act like a leader, just gonna be one as always. The case you tried to make isn't supported by anything I have done. Fun loving, motivation & football based commercials? Motivation and family related social media post?"
  • "Military families have class, dignity & loyalty. I will maintain mine. You have not shown any of those. I will keep it that way and let you go right off my page God Bless"

Things are ugly in D.C. The team sent out an email to season ticket holders this week that failed to mention Griffin among its "stars." The quarterback has one more year left on his rookie deal and a lot to prove with new coach Jay Gruden in town.
