The Oscars were last night and though Grand Budapest Hotel and Birdman dominated, J.K. Simmons took home the award for Best Supporting Actor for his riveting portrayal as Terence Fletcher in Whiplash. As one might expect with that name and for a movie that has become as popular as it has over the award season, there would be some parodies. The latest comes from the electronic music space and the comedy sketch group Nacho Punch, who mimic the Whiplash trailer almost perfectly, but this time with a DJ named DJ Wh1la$h and his struggled with an abusive teacher at the Skrillex Academy.

Instead of liking jazz, our new protagonist is a fan of Steve Aoki as he sits down to lunch with his girlfriend, who when he breaks up with her because of his musical commitment finds out she is also a DJ, going under the name DJ Pu$$ycat. Then nearly half the room chimes in that they are DJs as well, including one guy who tells Wh1pla$h to "check out my Soundcloud," a common phrase among struggling DJs.

The aspiring DJ enrolls, saying he wants to become a musician, but is shot down by his teacher who says, "Don't worry about the music, just steal samples from other people." He continues, "No two words are more harmful then 'sick beats,'" as the aspiring gets a bloody index finger and middle finger from mashing the space bar on his laptop, the apparent symbol for DJing.

The humorous parody is a hilarious take on an otherwise laborious professional that has become easy to enter, but difficult to master. Watch the video above and compare it to the actual trailer for Whiplash below.
