Hilary Duff just grabbed headlines a few weeks ago for finally pulling the trigger on her marriage to Mike Comrie. The couple had announced their split in January 2014, but have been spotted together so often that reconciliation rumors were believable. Unfortunately, after a particularly wild night out that ended with Comrie's bad behavior making headlines, Duff decided to file for divorce late last month. The former Disney Channel star is actually covering the April 2015 issue of Cosmopolitan and talks on the record about her thoughts on love now. Duff seems to be fairly at peace with where she is in life right now, and the split from Comrie has her contemplating some serious things, like whether or not monogamy is realistic.

"I don't want to sound bitter because I'm definitely not, but I don't know if people are meant to be together forever. Things happen over a long relationship that you can't always fight. A marriage of 20 years, the accomplishment of that must feel really great, but there are also huge sacrifices. I just always want to fight for happiness," explained Duff.

She also proved to be a real class act in that she was able to look back on the good parts of their marriage, and she also praised her ex for making their split as civil and gentle as possible. As for why things did not work, Duff said they were madly in love at one point but simply drifted apart naturally.

They are currently focused on co-parenting their 3-year-old son Luca, and she said family remains her top priority.

Were you surprised to hear she had filed for divorce, when all indications really seemed to be pointing toward an announcement that they were back together instead? Do you think it is really over for good now? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section below.
