Giuliana Rancic caught a lot of backlash last month for some of her red carpet remarks on Oscar night. Her failed joke about Zendaya Coleman's corn rows likely smelling like weed fell so flat that she ended up apologizing for days about it. It was the final straw for Kelly Osbourne, who used the backlash as a valid excuse to leave Fashion Police, a show that has floundered since Joan Rivers's death, anyway. Kathy Griffin was ultimately chosen to replace the late Rivers and, in spite of her raunchy comedic style, even she knew better than to insult Coleman.

When asked if she would have told the same joke, Griffin told the Chicago Sun-Times, "Probably not. But I wouldn't have said the joke in the first place. Some dude wrote it for her. Don't have anyone write you jokes or even suggest jokes for you on Fashion Police. You have enough great insider gossip from actually being on the red carpet. That's what fans want to hear the next day. Just talk and be yourself.

"My approach is always to go for the laugh, be as inappropriate as possible, but also change with the times. Comedy requires evolution as much as any business. My goal would be to bring the comedic sensibility of any show I enter or take over into a more modern way of thinking ... and laughing. The show wanted to do a running segment called 'Whore Score.' Um, no thanks. I think we can do better."

For a minute there it seemed like Rancic's job might be in jeopardy, but now it looks like she will stick around for a while. Perhaps the real question is how long Fashion Police itself is going to last. The ratings have certainly dropped since they decided to continue on without Rivers, and now the problems behind the scenes have been made public and that never improves things either.

Do you think that the show will be on the chopping block once this current season ends? Should it be? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section below.
