Queens of The Stone Age are going on a break of some sort, at least if you take bassist Michael Shuman's word for it. Nothing permanent of course...but fans of the rock band shouldn't be expecting any new music in the near future (from NME).

"There will be future stuff with Queens, we're just taking a break since we had a long, long two years of touring," he said. "We'll take a break to do other stuff."

Naturally, most fans will want to heard what Josh Homme—the band's vocalist, de facto leader and only constant member throughout its history—has to say about it. He's mum at this point, although last year he claimed that "there's a lot of new Queens of The Stone Age songs in the works." He also stated previously that after touring in support of the Queens' latest album, ...Like Clockwork, he hoped to get together with Jesse Hughes for the next Eagles of Death Metal album. That band hasn't put out a record since 2008's Heart On.

Of course, Queens of The Stone Age fans were probably primed to wait a while for the band's next album. Prior to ...Like Clockwork the group hadn't released an album since 2008's Era Vulgaris. Homme had also been involved in Them Crooked Vultures with Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones, a supergroup that's been discussing releasing a second album since 2010.

Shuman will be working on his own side project, Mini Mansions, during the break, but couldn't hypothesize what the bossman would be doing.

"We were eager because we were in a good spot, having fun and the record had done really well," he said. "But we decided to take a break because we had been going so hard for so long, and we really worked on that record for a long time. It's not like we're sick of each other and don't want to do it—it's just better to step back for a second and come back once the world has had a little bit of a break from you."
