First, Muse went "Psycho" with its first taste of new album Drones, and now, the "Madness" rockers are letting fans know that they're "Dead Inside." Today (March 23), a little more than two months away from the release date of its The 2nd Law follow-up, Muse released the official lead single "Dead Inside" from Drones on radio stations across the world.

If "Psycho" is the roaring, terrifying new introduction to Muse's seventh studio album, then "Dead Inside" is the more grounded, emotional cousin. Though not a ballad by any means, "Dead Inside" brings in the crashing, anti-authoritarian elements of Muse's new sound and tones it back for a song with more of a personal biting edge.

"Dead Inside" turns against a former flame (possible Matt Bellamy's ex Kate Hudson?), who has the appearance of a living, breathing and honest human being, but, well, there isn't much emotion in the person's inner core.

"Your lips feel warm to the touch / You can bring me back to life / On the outside you're ablaze and alive / But you're dead inside," Bellamy sings in the chorus.

After struggling through the relationship, Bellamy gives in, admitting that giving everything but getting little back has now turned him "dead inside" as well.

The roller coaster of lyricism is set against a mid-tempo guitar anthem, that isn't nearly as intense as some other recent Muse offerings. Instead, it compliments Bellamy's vocals perfectly as he reaches to warbling high heights.

Following the release of teaser track "Psycho," "Dead Inside" is the official lead single from Muse's new album Drones. The follow-up to the band's 2012 album The 2nd Law is due to be released on June 9.
