Earlier this week, fans of The X-Files finally got the news that they have been waiting over a decade to hear -- that the show is going to return to FOX. This series has been deemed a cult classic because it dealt primarily with the paranormal, but the truth is that it was a really huge hit that lead to two feature films. When The X-Files ended its' television run 13 years ago, the fans almost immediately started campaigning for it to return. Now we know that both David Duchovny and rumored real-life love, Gillian Anderson, will be back in the roles that made them household names. Filming of the six-episode limited series is set to begin this summer.

Duchovny sat for an interview with The New York Times recently and expressed total excitement at having the opportunity to reprise the role of Fox Mulder. He's shocked that there is still so much interest in the show, but at the same time, is quick to point out that it was successful because it was so well written, directed and produced. That team effort equaled 16 Emmy Awards, 5 Golden Globes and a Peabody Award in its heyday.

As far as thinking about actually being back on a set belonging to The X-Files, Duchovny admits it might be a bit nerve-wracking. "I think I'll be nervous on the day. When I'm in a scene with Gillian (as Dana Scully), I think we'll both be like, this is so weird. And I think we've both gotten better as we've gotten older, so how do we bring that to bear on these characters? If I were to look back at the first or second year of the show, I wouldn't try to act like that guy. I'm capable of doing more. She's capable of doing more. It'll be interesting to see how we keep the characters the same but also the actors are better." explains the actor.

It will be interesting how the characters are written years later and how they'll relate to one another. When we last saw them 8 years ago on the big screen, Mulder and Scully were still romantically linked. She had returned to her medical roots and he had been given the green light to return to the agency if he wanted to. How do you think that we're going to be reintroduced to them now?
