After Oasis broke up in 2009, Noel Gallagher took some time off before he released his first solo album, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. He released the effort on his own label, Sour Mash, because he did not want to put up with majors anymore. The result was more independence and less money. "Everything I've done since I left Oasis has come from my own pocket," Gallagher told Loaded recently. "You've got to pay for the tour, got to pay for the wages and you don't really break even for about nine months. I don't mean I lost money. I mean I lost a f**king s**tload of money. It was a few million, like. I had to lie to Sara [MacDonald, his wife] at first, and when I eventually did tell her, she freaked out -- I mean freaked out."

He has been able to make it work, though. His second solo effort, Chasing Yesterday, dropped earlier this year.

"I did it because I felt like I could and I didn't want to be signed to a record label, I wanted to do it myself. Luckily enough it's worked out," he added.

The former Oasis member also revealed in the same interview that he would like to stop touring at some point. Gallagher said that being 50 and trekking around the country on a tour bus is taking a toll.

"Maybe I'll retire from playing live, it depends how long you can be arsed. Ten years from now I don't think I'll be getting on a bus -- it's undignified. But I don't think I'll ever stop writing -- as long as my brain and bones last out," he said.

The worst part about being an aging rock star in Gallagher's opinion? The hangovers.

The singer and his band will kick off a lengthy tour in April.
