FOX's musical lineup for this year's Super Bowl Sunday is out of this world. Not only will Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers take the stage at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium, but the show airing immediately after the biggest game in sports will also have a dose of a music legend: Prince.

Yes. It's official. Prince will be joining the Zooey Deschanel-led sitcom New Girl as a guest star for the Feb. 2 episode, and according to E! Online, the whole collaboration was Prince's idea.

"He contacted us last season because he's a huge fan. He knows everything about the show. He contacted Zooey Deschanel and Hannah Simone directly and asked to do the show. We couldn't work it out last year. But when the Super Bowl thing was floated, it was perfect timing," said the show's executive producer Brett Baer.

And, like many New Girl fans, Prince is a huge fan of the show's new(ish) couple Nick (Jake Johnson) and Jess (Deschanel). So, logically, in his episode, their relationship gets a little bit of advice and guiding, all thanks to some "Purple Rain."

"He's right in the middle of trying to help [Nick and Jess] work through some stuff and it's amazing," said Baer.

Sounds amusing! And New Girl fans need not worry about Prince feeling out of place. Last season's finale featured another huge musical guest star: Taylor Swift.

Super Bowl XLVIII will take place on Feb. 2, and Prince's New Girl episode will air following the game.
