Playing a little bit of pick up basketball with members of Arcade Fire and Pearl Jam sounds like a dream come true for a lot of alternative music fans, but for one man at the Big Day Out Festival in Auckland, New Zealand, a quick game of shooting hoops ended in a major injury.

According to NME, fan Sherif Hassan told radio station Triple J that he was invited to a pick-up basketball game between members of Arcade Fire and Pearl Jam, including Win Butler and Pearl Jam's Jeff Ament, before Ament smashed into him and broke his nost.

"He's aggressive, I'll tell you that much. He broke my nose. I was actually the last play of the game - the one time I decided to play proper defense. All I heard was Win going off about how the rules are rubbish down here, and throwing balls around and chucking a bit of a hissy fit," Hassan said about Ament in a very Australian manner.

However, it seems as though a smashed schnoz was well worth it for the rock fan. After the basketball accident, Hassan got a shout-out during Pearl Jam's set and received backstage passes, meeting the likes of Lorde and Mac Miller.

Not a bad deal.
