Lance Bass has been steadily busy since the end of NSYNC 12 years ago, with that failed trek to space, an autobiography and a successful radio show Dirty Pop on Sirius XM. One thing he hasn't done, however, is record new music. Today (Jan. 20), that's all changed. Bass released his first solo (kind of) single "Walking On Air" on YouTube today.

Featuring Australian pop singer Anise K, rising American pop singer Bella Blue and the legendary Snoop Dogg, Bass took a previous version of the song recorded by Belgian singer Ian Thomas and made it his own.

The international collaboration has a distinctly European feel, with mid-tempo explosive dance beats, a Middle Eastern inspired riff after the chorus and plenty of energized singing.

In an interview with E! (where Bass debuted the single), he said this track was a tester on whether or not the public would be interested in more solo material from him and he has no real expectations. "I'm going to release it and if people love it, hopefully it will climb the charts... I'm just going to play it by ear," he said.

The track is nothing particularly special in the realm of dance music, and even though it was written and originally released last year, something about it feels incredibly dated.

It seems like Bass' solo career is more apt to go the way of JC Chasez than Justin Timberlake, but it's worth a shot.
