We cannot say that we saw this one coming. According to Gucci Mane's Twitter account (which is probably managed by his manager because it is doubtful they give Gucci Twitter privileges in prison), Guwop is making an album with Diplo. Gucci originally called it "an EDM album," but Diplo later clarified that while they were working on something, there wasn't going to be anything EDM about it.

There are more questions than answers with this potential collaboration. How did these two get linked up, why are they doing this now with Guwop in jail for at least another year and how will it get done?

They do have some history together several years ago. In 2010, Diplo hosted a mixtape, titled Diplo Presents: Free Gucci (Best Of The Cold War Mixtapes), which includes three remixes by the American DJ of Guwop's tracks "Danger Not A Stranger," "Break Yourself" and "Excuse Me." It also included works from Flying Lotus, Bird Peterson and DJ Benzi.

They look to take things to the next level with an official collaboration on an album. There aren't any further details on the project, but Gucci still being in jail throws a wrench into whatever plans they may have. That hasn't stopped Guwop from releasing a dizzying number of mixtapes and albums over the past couple of years, most recently his BreakfastLunch and Dinner tapes, with Dessert to top it off. He also released the fifth installment of his Trap House series.

Diplo has had a busy 2015, releasing his album Skrillex & Diplo Present Jack Ü at the end of February, which featured Justin Bieber, AlunaGeorge, 2 Chainz and others. Their single with Justin Bieber, "Where Are Ü Now" continues to gather momentum on the radio and in the charts.

He has a new Major Lazer album Peace Is The Mission set for release on June 1 and just premiered the first episode of the group's new cartoon by the same on FXX this past week.
