For the first time in 14 lengthy years, Louis C.K. will release a feature film -- I'm a Cop -- in which he'll write, direct and star as a volunteer police officer.

C.K. will star in the indie film as a middle-aged, volunteer cop, battling personal depression while mourning the recent loss of his mother. Also a cop, his mother was a decorated and retired officer, notes Rolling Stone. After she passes, Louis C.K.'s character decides to follow in her footsteps, breaking away from his volunteer work and aiming to become an authentic police officer.

I'm a Cop will be the first film written by C.K. since the 2001 comedy-sketch-turned-movie, Pootie Tang starring Chris Rock. At the time of its release, the film slumped and Paramount detached C.K. from the movie in post-production.

The comedian has appeared in films and TV series over the years with small parts in American Hustle, Parks and Recreation and Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine. C.K. currently has his own show, Louie, in its fifth season, which is fictionalized and based on his life as a recently divorced comedian trying to raise two daughters in the Big Apple. He continuously releases stand-up specials, including his latest, Louis C.K. Live From the Comedy Store, which you can find on his official website.

The joker, also known as Louis Szekely, told Rolling Stone in 2011 that he'd be interested in penning a film once more if he was allowed creative control and sovereignty. "It's not that I control a bunch of people," he said of how he likes to work, "it's just that nobody controls me." A more updated interview with The Hollywood Reporter suggests he's relaxed that particular attitude. "I don't feel like I need anyone to tell me anything with a TV show because I know exactly what I'm doing, but I'd be arrogant to think that I can take someone's $8 million and just turn in a movie," C.K. said. "Movies are different. There's a permanency to them."
