Fetty Wap has become a star in the hip-hop world, but it appears that he is trying to develop some crossover appeal as well. He worked with noted trap producer, Baauer, on an Adidas collaboration in March titled "Promises" that still was in his traditional lane, but hinted at a possible attempt at more dance tracks in the future. Wap's melodic voice and rhythm fits with electronic music and now he has gone for it with two verses on The Knocks' tune with Powers, "Classic."

The tune starts the same as it does normally, with Powers coming in to introduce the song and its summery, disco energy on the guitar. Fetty Wap then garbles out a first verse that at times, can be difficult to understand. Wap buys into the good feeling and loving vibe of the song, rapping "I will love more, I will love longer."

He then sits out the second verse as Powers reclaims "Classic" before Wap adds another little bit to the final chorus.

Zane Lowe premiered the new mix earlier today on Beats 1 radio. You can already purchase the tune on iTunes.

There are very few rappers who would be able to work with a track like this. Fetty Wap's sense of harmony gives him a unique ability and positions him to crossover to electronic music with ease if he so chooses to. This is a rough start, but the door is clearly open to him if so chooses to.

Though The Knocks just crushed Music Hall of Williamsburg last night, bringing out special guests, St. Lucia, X Ambassadors, Alex Newell, Sneak Soundsystem, Phoebe Ryan and others, they have their sights on more New York shows this year. The pair will headline Webster Hall on November 20. Get your tickets to the show here and don't be surprised if Wap shows up.
