Childish Gambino, also known as Donald Glover, was a guest on Conan last night and discussed a whole variety of topics included his upcoming movie Martian and his shift from comedy to rapping. When asked about that shift where Gambino was a writer on 30 Rock with Tina Fey, the Because The Internet rapper admitted it probably was "bad decision" at the time.

Looking back on the situation, he thought that making that switch would be totally fine, but he was met with some backlash. His mom was not happy because she was unsure about his future prospects in rap and he "had a good job." She also wanted to meet Alec Baldwin.

Gambino didn't really think twice about the move, because as he put it "I like music." However hindsight is 20/20 and with a steady job trying to make it in the music business was a big risk. "I think it was a bad decision... but I didn't know it. So it worked out great."

Luckily for hip-hop fans Gambino did make the switch and has released two full length albums Camp and Because The Internet, with two additional EPs.

He has been focusing heavily on his acting career recently, but there are signs that a new album is in the works. He premiered a new track at Bonnaroo that showed a new, more experimental direction with his music and somebody tweeted out info that the rapper was working with a choir and an orchestra on some new material. With his busy schedule it will be a waiting game for any new information.

Watch the interview here and more below as the waiting game continues for new Gambino music.
