Lil Herb, aka G Herbo, has finally released Ballin' Like I'm Kobe. The third mixtape from the 19-year-old Chicago rapper follows his previous critically acclaimed releases, Welcome to Fazoland and Pistol P Project, both released in 2014. The 16-track mixtape includes features from Herb's longtime Chicago collaborators, Lil Bibby and Lil Durk, as well as production from C-Sick, DJ L and Southside of 808 Mafia.
After many delays, #BLIK is finally here, and it's immediately become a top trending topic on social media. The tape is Herbo's first full release since it was announced that he signed with Cinematic Music Group at the beginning of September. The independent label is also home to Joey Bada$$, Big K.R.I.T. and Mick Jenkins.
As with Herb's previous releases, BLIK is lean on features. There is a collab with Lil Durk, "Ain't Right," and two with Lil Bibby, "Gang" and "Don't Worry." Herb was first introduced alongside Lil Bibby with their 2012 music video "Kill Sh*t," which quickly went viral when Herb was 16 and Bibby was 18.
Now that BLIK is out, fans of Chicago drill are eagerly awaiting Bibby's third mixtape, Free Crack 3, which he says is coming soon.
The BLIK production is varied and always exciting. There are a few beats from C-Sick, one of the most renowed producers in the drill game, as well as fellow Chicagoans DJ L and DP Beats, who recently dropped a collaborative project with Chief Keef. The two collabs with 808 Mafia founder Southside, "Rollin" and "100 Days 100 Nights" are also sure highlights.
The tape is dedicated, not to Kobe Bryant, but to Herb's friend Jacobi Herring, who Herb witnessed getting shot and killed in 2013.
