It's been seven years since the assault of Barbadian pop singer Rihanna by then boyfriend, Chris Brown, but soon after the anniversary of her 10th year in the music industry the "Pon De Replay" singer explains why she got back with him for a brief period of time and shared thoughts on domestic violence, sending the interwebs buzzing about their former relationship again.

"I was that girl, Rihanna said when speaking to Vanity Fair about the reconciliation with Chris Brown three years after he assaulted her in 2007, "The girl who felt that as much pain as this relationship is, maybe some people are built stronger than others. Maybe I'm one of those people built to handle sh*t like this."

Brown famously beat Rihanna in his Lamborghini shortly before the 2009 Grammy Awards and embarrassing photos of her bruised face appeared online soon after. Following the incident, the singer did a very emotional interview with 20/20, but in a shocking twist, requested that the restraining order be lifted three years later, around the time they were recording their hit single, "Birthday Cake."

People magazine reported that Rihanna was seeing rapper Travis Scott shortly after they were spotted at New York Fashion Week afterparty, but it seems that fans can't move on from her involvement with her R&B ex.

In her interview with Vanity Fair, Rihanna was pretty candid about being the public face of domestic violence, saying, "It's in the past, and I don't want to say 'Get over it,' because it's a very serious thing that is still relevant; it's still real. A lot of women, a lot of young girls, are still going through it. A lot of young boys too." The singer also admitted that at the time, she thought that she could save him.
