Chris Brown and his lawyer are gearing up for the start of the singer's misdemeanor assault trial April 17.

According to TMZ, the first issue happens to be how exactly the "Loyal" crooner will get to Washington, D.C.

BET reports that Brown's lawyer, Mark Geragos, filed a motion in court to block prosecutors' request for Brown be taken to D.C. under the custody of the U.S. Marshal.

The motion was filed Tuesday (April 1).

Just last week a judge signed a document stating that Brown must arrive in D.C. two days before his court date.

BET also reports that taxpayers will foot the bill for his cross-country court trip.

In the motion, Geragos argues that the singer, known for his dance moves and his infamous domestic abuse against Rihanna, needs be released into his custody to allow him an opportunity to prepare for the trial.

His lawyer says that a Con Air flight would "deprive him of his right to spend necessary time with his lawyer."

A hearing in the motion has been set for Thursday (April 3).

Brown will soon face a judge for the first time in a suit filed by a man who claims Brown attacked him in D.C. last October.

The man is now suing him for $3 million.

Brown continues to be held in a Los Angeles County jail as he awaits trial. He has been in custody since he was kicked out of court-ordered rehab last month.
