Sunday night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, pop star Selena Gomez presented comedian Amy Schumer with the Hollywood Comedy Award at the Hollywood Film Awards. After delivering a candid speech about the Trainwreck star, Justin Bieber's ex-girlfriend can now be added to the long list of celebrity Schumer fans.
"I talk about her obsessively," Gomez explained. "I've tweeted her often. I try to impersonate her and it doesn't really work. I actually just met her so basically what I'm saying is I'm really happy that clearly Jennifer Lawrence wasn't able to do this tonight because I love you." The "Good For You" singer continued to describe Schumer as the first comedian "to speak to the women of my generation."
"Amy, you've inspired me not take myself too seriously when I sit on my couch and I'm depressed about certain things," the Revival singer added. "You constantly made me feel I'm a bad ass even though most of the time I'm not. You say the things I wish I could say and you never ever make feel bad about anything I do in my personal life."
After the Inside Amy Schumer star took the stage, she joked that she didn't even ask good pal Jennifer Lawrence and that Selena was always her first choice. She continued to place the focus back on director Tom Hooper for an earlier comment he made while blushing over Amber Heard, who stars as a ballerina in his impending drama, The Danish Girl. Schumer joked that although Heard may be his perfect girl, "look at these thighs" she said as she hiked her dress up. "I told you back stage I was scared I was going to pull up my dress. I did it, [but] it's not on TV. It doesn't leave this room," she admitted.
The night's fellow honorees boasted an impressive lineup of Will Smith, Jane Fonda, Robert DeNiro, Benicio Del Toro, Carey Mulligan and more, E! reports. The James Corden-hosted event also featured celebrity presenters such as Amy Poehler, Johnny Depp, Reese Witherspoon, Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe.
