Ridley Scott has made it very clear that he's excited to make the sequel to his 2012 sci-fi blockbuster Prometheus, which started a prequel storyline to his critically acclaimed masterpiece, Alien. After naming the new movie project Alien: Paradise Lost earlier in 2015, the filmmaker has changed the title to Alien: Covenant as of last week, and has shared release date news, a logo for the film and even plot details regarding the synopsis that will eventually lead up to Alien. We learned last month a loose plot synopsis from Scott, explaining that the survivors of Prometheus, Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and android head David (Michael Fassbender), would run into a new crew of space travelers on the home planet of the Alien architects. Now, with a name like Covenant, we can assume that more "creation" allegories are to develop in the sequel.

Scott revealed the title change of this sequel while talking about his 2015 hit The Martian with The Playlist (via Slash Film).

After learning of the name change, we didn't have too much time to poke fun at the indecisive director because an official logo was revealed, along with a release date and plot synopsis just a day later.

"Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world - whose sole inhabitant is the 'synthetic' David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition," the synopsis states, according to Gamma Squad, which has the logo on display.

Clearly, we're all wondering where Rapace's Elizabeth Shaw comes into play in this story, but that's most likely something we'll have to wait on. Scott might change his mind about this synopsis, after all!

Alien: Covenant hits theaters on October 6, 2017, so we have some time to get more details.
