Christmas has come early for fans of Carly Rae Jepsen. As promised, on Friday (Nov. 20), the pop star brought the holiday spirit with her take on the 1980s Wham! classic "Last Christmas."

Keeping with the atmospheric, bubblegum flavored '80s spirit of her new album EMOTION, Jepsen brings a sense of lightness and joy to the song, even though it is inherently about having your heart broken. But, in the hands of Carly Rae Jepsen, that doesn't really sound so bad, especially when it leads to a poppy Christmas gem like this one.

Though, there is a sense of glitziness in Jepsen's version of "Last Christmas," when she first teased the song, she included an emoji of a saxophone.

That saxophone plays into the beginning of the track, adding just a little bit of yuletide cheesiness and an additional layer of '80s musicianship.

Jepsen joins a long list of musicians who have covered "Last Christmas." Originally released by Wham! in 1985, the song has also been covered by Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, the cast of Glee, Jimmy Eat World and more.

"Last Christmas" is the first Christmas song from Jepsen, but it is not the only release the "Call Me Maybe" singer has had this year. In June, she released her third studio album EMOTION, featuring the critically acclaimed tracks "I Really Like You," "Run Away With Me" and "Your Type."
