Chief Keef has invited both academic inquiry and derision with his often-controversial rhymes and behavior. However, until now, mention of the Chicago rapper in the classroom was scant, especially in elementary school. As was previously reported, this did not deter a substitute teacher from John Fiske Elementary School in Chicago from creating a lesson plan for her sixth grade music class surrounding the legally troubled rapper and his short history since his sudden rise to fame in mid-2012. The lesson plan also included homework about Chris Brown. Due to backlash, the teacher was fired.

According to Rollingout.com, students of this sixth-grade class were given a bio of the rapper, and told to listen to his music as homework. Then, the students were quizzed on questions including the age that Keef dropped out of school, and who shot the 20-year-old rapper.

An infuriated parent, Katrina Sanders, said, "I had never heard of him. But after careful research I found out that his music is about having sex, using the 'B' word, anti-police and supporting gangs. We don't send our children to John Fiske to learn about some doggone Chief Keef and how many times he has been shot and what house arrest crime he is on. My son is not exposed to this kind of music."

As eurweb.com reports, the teacher handed out assignments on Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Fetty Wap and Tyga. The substitute teacher also asked children questions about alleged power brokers and co-conspirators in the "Illuminati."

Sanders asked, "What happened to studying notes, playing instruments? My son had to go on the computer to see who this clown is because we are not exposed to this in the home or church."

In response to criticism from parents, a Chicago Public School spokesman, Emily Bittner said in a statement, "This inappropriate project was immediately suspended by the principal as soon as she learned about it. While teachers have flexibility in making assignments, CPS requires them to provide age-appropriate material in the classroom." CPS officials said that the teacher was fired on Tuesday.
