Electronic pioneer Giorgio Moroder surprised listeners by dropping a new track, "Run Program," just in time for the holidays. The disco god shared the new song via his Twitter, simply stating "A holiday gift for you..."

Upon first listen, "Run Program" is harder and darker than most of his decades-long discography. It's certainly a departure from the blissful disco-pop sound of his most recent album, Deja Vu, which features quite a roster of pop stars including Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, Sia and Charli XCX.

The new cut moves like disco but sounds more like something Skrillex would drop. Clocking in at just under 2 minutes, the bass-heavy driving dance track is the perfect addition to your post-holiday driving soundtrack. Listen to "Run Program" via the producer's Soundcloud, below.

While the track itself arrived with very little details, Your EDM reports that the new song very likely was composed with the Tron video game, based off of the latest installation in the Tron: Legacy series in mind. Back in February, Moroder revealed that he would be working on the soundtrack to the forthcoming game; he also let it slip that Skrillex is involved in the project somehow.

Then again, it's entirely possible the new upload is simply teasing the producer's next single, representing yet another way in which he pushes the envelope of electronic music. Either way, he's certainly doing his part to prove that, as the title of one of his recent tracks asserts, "74 is the New 24."

Although the disco legend has been at the game decades before most of his recent collaborators were even sparks in their parents' eyes, Moroder's first-ever live DJ set was at Brooklyn's Output club in 2013. Since then he's continued to perform live pretty consistently and has graced the main stages of a number of festivals.

Now, the producer is scheduled to return to Output on February 10th, Brooklyn Vegan reports. It's the only date listed at this point, but Brooklyn Vegan notes that there may be more TBA.

Listen to his set from the aforementioned Deep Space show presented by Red Bull Music Academy at Output below.
