Chris Brown has been accused of misdemeanor battery and theft following a performance in Las Vegas. The incident occurred early Saturday morning (Jan. 2) at the Palms Casino Resort as reported by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The "Zero" singer was in Las Vegas for New Year's weekend and had earlier performed at Drai's Beach and Nightclub on Jan. 1.

According to a statement released to The Hollywood Reporter, at 10:20 a.m., the police were called in for an assault that occurred at a Palms hotel suite. When the police entered the suite, the female victim allegedly had some injuries from the battery. The department was able to discern that she had been at the party where the incident occurred over a picture taken on a cell phone.

The police reported that Brown struck the woman when she attempted to take his picture and he then lifted her phone. She was subsequently escorted out of the room and off of the property by hotel security.

A representative for Brown released a statement to the dismissing the charges. "Her claim that she had her phone in her possession inside the after party and was able to take a photo causing an altercation with Chris Brown is a complete fabrication. This seems like a clear case of retaliation for her bruised ego," they said.

Brown has had no shortage of controversy in his career. He recently sat down to talk about his 1-year-old daughter Royalty and his redemption in the industry after the infamous 2009 assault incident with Rihanna. There had been a lot of controversy in the past over a cover story on the singer that had angered him.

"It's not my job to be your role model; my job is to be your inspiration. There's a difference." he said to VIBE. "You can be that rose in the concrete, or you can be that underdog, or you can be that person that people already cast out, and still be able to maintain and live your life, understand, change, and make a difference."
