If it seems like the music industry is being dominated by younger and younger artists and leaders, well, that may not be so far off. On Jan. 4, Forbes published its annual "30 Under 30" list featuring the biggest and youngest names in the game. Some of today's biggest artists such as Shawn Mendes, Selena Gomez, Fetty Wap, Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas made the cut for the 2016 edition.

Mendes, who has risen to notoriety thanks to his breakout hits "Stitches" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer" leads this year's list. Forbes notes that Mendes got his start with YouTube covers and has since translated that to a proper music career, opening on Taylor Swift's 1989 World Tour and notching his own top five hit. Oh, and he's only 17 years old.

Mendes may be the youngest name on the list, but there are plenty of other notable millennials making waves in the music industry. Bands Walk the Moon and Pentatonix made the 30 Under 30 cut as well as some of Mendes' fellow rising stars such as Halsey, Grimes and Leon Bridges.

Of course, along with quick rising talents, more established names dot the Forbes list. Jason Derulo, The Weeknd also made the cut, alongside Gomez, Fetty Wap, Lovato and Jonas.

Of course, non-singers also made up a solid portion of the 30 Under 30. Producers Boi-1da, Metro Boomin, Krewella and DJ Snake also have marked influence despite their youth.

The panel included four 30 Under 30 alumni, musicians Mac Miller and Gary Clark Jr. along with music industry pioneers Zach Iser of talent agency ICM and ZinePak's Kim Kaupe.
