The identity of Malaa has been the topic of much speculation ever since his (or their?) remix of "After Life" surfaced last year alongside a teaser film produced by Chivteam, DJ Snake and Tchami's videographers. As speculation continues following the release of the latest installment in the "Who Is Malaa?" mix series, listeners have uncovered a series of clues supporting the claims that Malaa is probably Tchami and DJ Snake's new side project--and that Mercer is possibly involved.

Many listeners reached the conclusions regarding the side project theory back in November when the enigmatic artist debuted with the banger entitled "Notorious" on Tchami's new label, Confession. Mercer's involvement in the equation makes sense, because he shares the same management team as all three other projects in question.

The side project theory seems obvious on some levels: both parties are connected to the project via remix work and are pervasively credited on each other's productions. They also share a history of working together behind the scenes and often obscuring their identities while doing so.

Of course, everything up to this point has been mere speculation until, as Your EDM reports, a Facebook event description for an upcoming Gem and Jam Festival SF Pre-Party at 1015 Folsom in San Francisco may have revealed Malaa's identity to be DJ Snake. While the mysterious producer's name was spelled incorrectly ("Maala") and has since been removed from the lineup, the clue remains promising.

As Dancing Astronaut reports, some Redditers also unearthed a Twitter correspondence that has since been deleted but lives on through screenshots all over Reddit. Basically, DJ Snake implied his participation in the side project by favoriting a tweet sent by San Francisco-based house DJ Sydnayyyp in which Malaa was mentioned as his and Tchami's "side project."

While perusing the trail of clues strewn throughout the internet and awaiting some sort of official announcement regarding the mystery producer's true identity, listen to "Who Is Malaa #9" via the artist's Soundcloud, below.
