Swedish DJ and producer John Dahlbäck has released his new album Saga. The 15-track LP only has a few listed features coming from smaller, European singers and indie acts like BullySongs, Stockholm Syndrome, Luke McMaster and others.
This is the first artist album from Dahlbäck since his 2012 ambient album Kill The Silence as his alias Demure and his first under the Dahlbäck name since 2010's Mutants, which was more of a compilation of past released singles.
Saga takes a much more forward-thinking approach, pushing out primarily unreleased music from the Swede that he has been working on over the past couple of years.
The album is a scattered mix of different genres, flipping around between house, dance-leaning pop, festival-sized melodic cuts and even some more downtempo, trap-influenced tunes. It is hard to find a clear line throughout the album as opposed to what sounds like compilation of his favorite songs.
Speaking to us back in September, Dahlbäck hinted at the diversity that fans would see on the album.
"It's very different, even in the album it's very different because it's there's a couple of club songs, but most of them I started with just piano," he explained. "I wrote something on the piano, I gave that to someone on the vocals and then I produced the track afterwards. It's just a very musical album and I'm very happy about it -- very wide and broad."
