Last October, Hessle Audio label lead Ben UFO, joined by fellow London-based electronic producers Pearson Sound and Joy Orbison, recorded a special session for the Dutch imprint/record store/distro Rush Hour. The rare mixtape was originally available only via a limited edition batch of 50 cassette tapes, but has since been uploaded to Soundcloud so now you can stream it in full.
The mixtape was released ahead of an in-store appearance by the trio of artists in conjunction with the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE). The limited cassette release sold out almost immediately, MixMag reports.
The A-Side features 44 minutes of Joy Orbison's eclectic, experimental dub and techno selections. The B-Side features Ben UFO and Pearson Sound delivering back-to-back mixes of equally unique, soulful, experimental dub and otherwise electronic dance cuts.
Tracklists are not yet available, but we've spotted some NSI, UB40 and Kate Bush in Joy Orbison's mix.
Overall, as Magnetic Mag points out, the Rush Hour session elucidates alternate sides of each of the three artists than fans might have grown used to. Listen to the full mixtape below.
About 35 minutes into the A-Side side, a cinematic voiceover explains the sentimental allure of analog culture and effectively takes the place of an artist's statement on their decision to release the mixes via a limited-run dubplate cutting.
All three producer/DJs have tour dates coming up with stops at various festivals. For starters, Ben UFO and Pearson Sound will be performing back-to-back sets next week at a Hessle Audio showcase.
In late April, Ben UFO will be throwing down in Los Angeles alongside Four Tet and Floating Points, among others. Meanwhile, Joy Orbison has a busy tour schedule all his own, including a headlining stop at Hideout Festival in Croatia.
