As promised, the first half of Empire's season 2 came to a close with a major cliffhanger. FOX recently previewed the series' return with a dramatic trailer.

As viewers may recall, the season came to a pause with things taking a shocking turn for the Lyon clan. Lucious’ Empire Entertainment company had been pulled from under him and Hakeem made it possible by giving the deciding vote to have his father removed from his position of power. Elsewhere, a dark figure, presumed to be Anika, pushed pregnant Rhonda down the staircase in her home.

In the new trailer, it appears that Hakeem has taken on Lucious’ role at Empire under the suggestion of Camilla, his former cougar fling, who just so happens to be married to Mimi Whiteman. Hakeem’s brother Jamal can be seen warning him of the things that could ensue if he takes on the role of CEO.

Though it appears that Lucious has been one-upped, he is adamant about getting his company back and makes a point to stop by Camilla’s office. Elsewhere, Andre finds out about his wife’s accident, Lucious visits the cemetery and he reunites with Cookie to get Empire back.

Last week, it was revealed that rapper Xzibit will appear on the show as Lucious’ rival, Leslie "Shyne" Johnson, who is described as "100% wolf and 100% gangster." It has been reported that Xzibit's role will be a multi-episode arc, but there are no official details available on how long he will be on the show or when he will make his debut.

Vivica A. Fox has appeared on the show as the eldest sister of Cookie. Other previous guest stars include Chris Rock and Alicia Keys.

Empire has been renewed for a third season and is slated to return on March 30.
