Prince’s alleged addiction to opioids may have gone deeper than previously thought, and he reportedly had an appointment scheduled with a specialist prior to his death. In an ironic twist it is further being reported that he died exactly one day before the appointment would have taken place. Prince was found unresponsive in the elevator of his Paisley Park home and was pronounced dead the morning of April 21.

A lawyer named William Mauzy spoke with the Minneapolis Star Tribune and exposed that those close to the star had contacted Howard Kornfeld, a doctor specializing in opioid-addiction treatment in Northern California. He had apparently been called on April 20, the night before Prince died, because the star was “dealing with a grave medical emergency.”

Kornfeld also serves as the medical director for Recovery Without Walls and had apparently told Prince’s team that he would not be able to meet with the artist until April 22. A lawyer for Kornfeld reportedly told the Star Tribune that his son Andrew Kornfeld had been sent in his place.

“The plan was to quickly evaluate his health and devise a treatment plan,” Mauzy told the Star Tribune. “The doctor was planning on a lifesaving mission.”

In a tragic sequence of events, Kornfeld’s son had arrived at Prince’s Paisley Park residence the very morning of his death with buprenorphine. The medication is used to aid in the treatment of opioid addiction. Kornfeld was actually the one who made the 911 call.

It was also recently revealed that there is an investigation into Prince’s death. Police are looking into whether or not a doctor was present on the plane that made an emergency landing in Illinois prior to his death. An official who had opted to remain anonymous revealed that the investigation was looking into what drugs were present on the flight.

NBC News had first reported the presence of painkillers when Prince was found unresponsive and TMZ had further reported that the culprit was Percocet. According to TMZ, the artist had been hospitalized five days before he died and given a shot of naloxone, which reverses the effects of an overdose.
