Netflix's new hit show Stranger Things has announced the details for the series' widely lauded soundtrack that has helped make the show even bigger. There have been rumblings that the soundtrack would be released and the first volume will come this Friday, Aug. 12. In addition to the release date, Netflix has also unveiled the tracklist.
The CD release for volume 1 arrives on Sept. 16 via Lakeshore/Netflix. The second volume will be released next Friday, Aug. 19. Its CD release comes on Sept. 23.
The tracklist does not read like a traditional artist and song title sort of soundtrack. Instead it has names for various songs in the score that fans will be able to pinpoint to various moments in the show.
"We discussed having a classic tone and feel to the music for the show but being reserved enough that it wasn't '80s cheese, while offering a refreshing quality so that felt modern," said Michael Stein in a press release, one of the individuals who scored the show. "This was one of the qualities that drew them to our music in the first place. Having a familiarity with classic synths worked, but with an overall forward thinking approach."
