The Today Show kicked off their Fourth of July in style, inviting in pop's own Ed Sheeran to perform in front of a packed plaza! The BFF of Taylor Swift did three songs off his new album, x, which was released here in the United States on June 23.

The "Don't" singer was kind enough to celebrate America's Independence Day on NBC to the immense delight of his fans, some of whom arrived at New York's Rockefeller Plaza around 5 a.m. to nab a front row view of the singer-songwriter.

Sheeran took to the one-man stage around 8:30 a.m. EST earlier this morning and kicked off his set, part of Today's Toyota Concert Series, with "Sing." Appearing onstage with just a mic, his acoustic (which was fittingly fashioned with an "x" on it) and his looping machine, his performance proves just why he's on top of the world as of late, hitting each falsetto flawlessly and strumming every note equally as proficient, if not better, than the new album itself.

His full set consisted of: "Sing," "Don't" and "Thinking Out Loud."

Taking a break in between tunes, the musician had a brief interview with Today Show correspondents and answered some questions fans have been dying to ask, such as what song off x means the most to him? His answer: "Thinking Out Loud."

Before and after his set, Sheeran was on Twitter. Check out a couple of his tweets:

And of course, don't forget to watch Ed Sheeran perform "Sing" on Today:
