Philadelphia-based four-piece indie-rock band June Divided have not released much music lately, but are ready to unveil a brand new six-track EP, Body Wars, this Friday, Dec. 2. We have the premiere before it is released.

It has not been easy getting to this road on Body Wars. The group released two EPs back in 2011 and 2012, The Other Side of You and Backbone, respectively and after touring on the backs of those, they decided to take a step back and come up with something different.

The result has been Body Wars, which embodies the struggle that everyone can feel when your mind and body are at odds with each other for a myriad of reasons. The band dives into that a bit further in a statement.

"Body Wars has been in the works for a while, and it's a special feeling to finally see it out there," explains the band to Music Times. "We spent a few years experimenting, agreeing and disagreeing, working through setbacks, and exploring, until we found exactly what we wanted to do and say with this record. If your head and your heart have ever been at war with each other, this record is for you."

The EP starts out with the fiery "Firestarter," which lives up to its name. Then it hits the previously released "I Didn't Mind," which has all of the qualities to hit Alt-rock radio at some point. It then picks up with the more straightaway rock tune "Take." Things then slow down a little bit on the EP title track "Body Wars," that may be the strongest on the entire project. It all rounds out with the grungier "Shine" and "Time Will Stop."

All of the songs on the EP have a special earworm quality to them that make them all worth several more listens at the least.

The band will celebrate the release of the Body Wars EP on Sunday, Dec. 4 at Union Transfer in Philadelphia.
